Lets try it this way

It is my belief and the belief of some of the other boaters that I have talked to that the $25 a day non boater fee is not sufficient. The rules show it at $20 minimum some say we have changed it to $25. What ever the case they are both too low in my opinion. The problem lies in the word minimum because that is all that someone wants to pay. We should look into raising the MINIMUM or removing it all together.
Cost examples 1 1/2 to 2 time more gas to haul a boat to the lake. Boat oil is $25 a gallon. Boats get 2 to 6 mpg.
The best situation is for the non boater and boater to ride to the lake together sharing all expenses.

After much thought I feel I may have stumbled across the fairest gas money system (with the help of Noltie) for when the boater and non boater can not drive down together. Let me know what you guys think.
The boater would fill up the truck and boat gas, keeping all receipts for down and back plus refilling the boat to find out how much is actually used.
The non boater would also keep their gas receipts or the share of their gas bill if they ride down with others.
After they have returned home the two batches of receipts are totaled and the bill is split in half. The only hang up is the splitting of the oil price since our boats use quit a bit of it. I know that i pay $23 for a gallon of opti oil and on a weekend you will burn 1/2 to 1 gallon of oil, so i guess you could go 1/2 plus $10 for the non boater.
I know it would be a pain at first but it sounds like a fair system.
What do you think?

For truck gas I will fill up before or when I pick up my partner heading to the lake. After the tournament my partner fills up my truck for the trip home. Everyone has thought this was fair with exception of one last year at La Cygne. And if $25 is not enough for boat gas and oil you should ask or talk to your partner BEFORE YOU FISH. You can not expect them to read your mind,YOU MUST ASK. Not everyone keeps their boat tanks full , by not hauling around unnecessary tackle and fuel {weight} you can achieve better economy with your truck and boat. You just have to discuss with your partner what your plans are.
And next year when we do tournament rules we can remove and or change some rules.

13. BOAT OPERATING AND EXPENSE: Partners must determine at the time of the drawing which partner's boat will be used. Each partner must be offered equal time in choosing the fishing locations and operating the trolling motor. It is required that the non-boater pay one-half of the operating expenses for the tournament day (minimum of $20.00 per day).
A different bass club in Kansas tournament rules and by laws.
Additionally, partners split fees for gas and hotel costs (if applicable),
17. There will be two separate optional big bass pots, one for the boaters and one for non-boaters ($5.00 per day) with a 100% payback for the heaviest legal bass each day “weigh-in penalties (see Section V) will apply. NOTE: Non-boaters cannot participate in the boaters’ pot and visa versa (Exception: If there are 3 or less members in the boater or non-boater pot, they can decide as a group to enter the other pot).
They have split pots for boater and non boater-each entry is fishing for themselves.
They would have the same expenses (boat) and a seperate Pool Payout for the boater and non boater.
It gives the Non boater a level playing field to "win" and recoup his expenses.
If i have to cover my own cost and travel expense to get to a fishing destination and cover someone else's cost- I could probably buy a guide who would put me on fish, bait my hook and make sure I would catch fish. I think on a bigger tournament level (Federation, Heartland, Etc.) it would be approriate to request more. The minimum operating expense payable to the Boater is $20.00 per day or an agreed amount on our CLUB level. If you feel the need to request additional funding-then just ask, I don't feel we would need to change by laws.

From our current Tournament Entry Form: [$25 gas donation to boater per day.] Our Tournament Rule 13 states a gas donation of a minimum of $20.00 per day. We probably should up date our tournament rules. I don’t know when the entry form was changed.
In the past few years we have had more Boaters than Non-boaters it is always an option when that happens that a Boater can go as a Non-boater if gas money is an issue. It is always safer to have two people in a boat than someone fishing in a boat by there self.

I like the idea of adding up the cost and splitting it down the middle. While it would be ideal for fishing partners to ride to the lake together that is not always possible. By splitting the non boaters fuel cost and the boater’s fuel cost then splitting it no one should walk away feeling like they financed the trip
